If you suffer from headaches or jaw pain we may be able to help solve your problems and improve your day-to-day living. The teeth, muscles and jaw joints must all work together to offer you efficient and comfortable function.  This type of pain often originates from your TMJ (Temporomandibularjoint). Your Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is the ball and socket joint just in front of your ears, which connects to your jawbone. It is one of the strongest, most flexible and used joint and muscle systems in your body.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a condition that can take years to develop resulting in a number of different problems including headaches, migraines, jaw pain, neck and shoulder discomfort.

Symptoms of TMJ include:

  • Jaw pain and/or stiffness.
  • Headaches.
  • Vague tooth soreness or toothache.
  • Sensitive teeth.
  • Painful or tender jaw joint.
  • Difficulty opening your jaw.
  • Pain and fatigue when eating hard or chewy foods.
  • Clicking, popping or grinding sound in your jaw joint.
  • Ear pain – with no sign of an infection.
  • Grinding or clenching while sleeping or awake.
  • Breaking or cracking of teeth.
  • History of medically diagnosed migraine headaches.

It is possible to have a TMJ disorder for a long time without realising it. That's because some of the symptoms, such as headaches, may seem unrelated to your jaw joints and muscles and therefore misdiagnosed as a back or neck muscle problem. Talk to us about how we can assess these components and offer answers and treatment to alleviate the pain and discomfort you may be experiencing.
